The Benson Toorak wins National Retirement Living Award

Mr John Ralph AC, Chairman of the Parish Committee, said he was delighted to learn of the award.

“The Committee had set a challenging brief for the architects and Demaine Partnership, under the leadership of its principals, Simon Hanger and Michael Jeffreson, have delivered brilliantly,” Mr Ralph said.

“Because the village is in Toorak, the independent living units had to be spacious and luxuriously appointed, with high quality communal space for the residents, to meet what the market would expect.

“The architects were challenged to set a new benchmark in Melbourne for retirement living.  A number of other requirements were specified, including that the new building should be in harmony with the neighbouring church but not dominate it, and that it should enhance the Toorak Road streetscape. I think it is not only the judges of the award who would agree that these specifications were well met.”

Mr Simon Hanger said that entry into the award required submission of considerable information about the planning and construction of the project, with judges making a close inspection of the building, its facilities and landscaping.

Retirement villages, with their independent living units, offer an attractive lifestyle for those living in retirement or about to do so.  The Benson Toorak offers an unparalleled opportunity for those wishing to continue living in the Toorak area.
